Bronchiectasis is a chronic respiratory condition characterized by abnormal, permanent dilation or widening of the bronchi or airways in the lungs, which can result in the accumulation of mucus, bacteria, and other foreign particles. This can cause recurrent infections, inflammation, and damage to the lungs, leading to breathing difficulties, coughing, and chest pain. Bronchiectasis can occur as a result of a variety of underlying conditions, such as infections, immune disorders, genetic conditions, and environmental factors. Treatment options include antibiotics, bronchodilators, airway clearance techniques, and sometimes surgery.
